Almost all my work is done in wood or clay. The wood pieces are abstract and are carved directly from logs. I primarily use black walnut, which has a rich, warm color and is local to Long Island. I like to develop graceful forms which relate to each other in such a way that the sculpture displays pleasing positive and negative spaces.
The clay pieces are representational. I take the human anatomy as a starting point, possibly exaggerating one or more features for artistic effect. The goal is to display the beauty of the body or life's emotions. The work is then cast in bronze or plaster.
I live in Setauket, New York and work in a studio that is an extension to my house. I have been sculpting for most of my life - initially on a part-time basis, more recently on a full-time basis.
